Mammography

1. Call scheduling directly at 360-642-6325 to make your mammogram appointment. 
   Appointments can be scheduled for self-referred screening mammograms, screening mammograms ordered by providers, and diagnostic mammograms ordered by providers.
2. Provide Necessary Information:
   Be ready to provide your personal details, health insurance information, and any prior mammogram records if this is not your first mammogram.
3. Choose a Convenient Time:
   Work with the scheduling staff to find a convenient time for your appointment. If you are menstruating, try to schedule the mammogram for the week after your period to minimize discomfort. Mammogram appointments are available 7 days a week, excluding holidays.
4. Confirm the Appointment:
   Once your appointment is scheduled, note the date, time, and any specific instructions provided by Radiology.

1. Avoid Certain Products:
   • On the day of your mammogram, avoid applying deodorant, perfume, powder, or lotion on your breasts and underarms, as these products can interfere with the mammogram images.
2. Wear Comfortable Clothing and Easy to Remove Jewelry:
   • Wear a two-piece outfit so you can easily remove your top during the procedure. You'll be asked to wear a hospital gown from the waist up.
   • Remove all jewelry at home or before the screening.
3. Bring Necessary Documents:
   • Bring your ID, insurance card, and any previous mammogram records to your appointment.
4. Arrive Early:
   • Arrive at Ocean Beach Hospital a bit early to allow time for parking, registration, and any necessary paperwork.
5. Discuss Concerns with the Technologist:
   • If you have any concerns about discomfort or the procedure, mention them to the technologist. They can often make adjustments to ensure you're as comfortable as possible.
6. Post-Mammogram Care:
   • After the procedure, you can resume your normal activities. If you experience any discomfort, it should be mild and temporary. Your results will typically be sent to your doctor within a few days to a week.
7. Post-Mammogram Follow-up:
   • The outcome of your screening will be mailed to you within seven days.
   • A diagnostic mammogram may be required after your screening mammogram. A provider will contact you should you need additional imaging.
   • A mammogram reminder letter will be sent out one month prior to your next recommended screening.
